Sohta stopped for a minute, to think out his words, and then he continued.

"Takano, I’m sorry and Misao said she was too. That person who hurt you wasn’t actually Misao. It’s just… This place does things to you, whether negative or positive, it depends on your situation, but she was kept here all alone with only her hate. So, it almost consumed her… I’m sorry that you had to go through that, and I’m sorry that Misao reached that level of anger. I- I don’t know what else I should say…"

He wondered if letting Takano stay here would be safe. 

He didn’t want to let her go, not after years of longing for her, searching for someone like her… But he wondered if the danger would end here. 

Out of all the moments in his life, his first murder, getting beaten up, murdering Misao, and the curse… Watching Takano suffer like that, was the most horrifying and painful thing he had ever experienced.

He thought she was going to die.

He felt sickened and terrified at the thought of that. If he had a heart rate, it would be beating faster than ever before.

So, he was going to ask her something.

"Takano… Would you like to leave and never come back?" He gazed at her, a very serious expression fixed upon his face. ”I can understand after yesterday’s events, but I just want to know myself, if it’s what you truly desire…”

she couldn’t help but giggle at his laugh but then cursed as she landed herself in the jail and had almost no money. “SERIOUSLY!?” she threw her hands up in frustration. “”YOU RIGGED IT! I SWEAR YOU- oh god I sound like you in high school!”

Sohta was laughing so hard, he almost fell over on one side. 

"Y-YOU… *giggle* Y-YOU HONESTLY D-*wheeze* DID SOUND LIKE ME!"  

He wanted to stop laughing, but in his attempts to calm down, he just started laughing harder. 

Unlike Sohta, Takano was on her side. it began to hurt soon, but she didn’t notice. “W-WELL AT L-LEAST I D-DIDN’T T-THROW T-THE B-BOARD I-INTO A P-POND!”

She shook her head. “no… I like it here….. I’m willing to risk pain to see you, I truly am.” her expression was dead serious. “Even If I die here.”

but then her smile returned.

"I met with my psychic instructor and contacted Misao… She apologized and promised I wouldn’t get hurt here. she put an emergency barrier thing that will activate if you or anyone lashes out…."

her hand began hurting again and she held back tears from the pain. she bit her lip, trying to keep the pain hidden from him.

"Takano, I’m…"

He stopped there.

He could see that her wound still caused her pain, even though she did try to hide it. He was unsure if this would be best. He still felt very weak, so he didn’t know if he could be able to protect her for a while.

He felt scared for her.

He was scared that she would die, scared that he would ruin her life, scared that she would get hurt again,

And most of all…

He was scared that he would be the one to hurt her.

He didn’t know how to comfort her or her wound, or on anything that seemed to bother her, for that matter… But since she seemed intent on staying, he decided to let her, despite his worst fears.

"Then you can stay here as long as you’d like." He said, giving her a worried smile. 

"Takano, is there anything I can get you to ease you of your pain?"

Takano nodded. “ye-” then, she collapsed. Infection had gotten to her. Her forehead was hot with a burning fever and her cheeks were rosy red. Maybe he could help her, she didn’t know. or maybe she would die. Although Hideki was unaware, she knew that if she died in his ‘house’ she would remain there forever as a spirit. but she didn’t want to die. she was scared to.

"Oh god, TAKANO!"

He quickly kneeled down beside her to examine her hand. It appeared to him as if she had already caught an infection. The cut was very swollen and agitated, a small trickle of blood coming from it.

He then sped to the bathroom and grabbed all that he could use. Which was a soapy washcloth, a regular wet washcloth, a dry towel, and some bandages. It wasn’t much, but hopefully it was enough to save her.

"I’m sorry, but this is going to hurt…" 

He gently took her hand and rubbed the washcloth into the infected area. He was a complete amateur at this but he tried his best anyways.

"Dear god, please, PLEASE, let her live…” He muttered to himself.

He rinsed the soap off, using the other washcloth, and dried the wound with the towel. Afterwards, he bandaged it with proper bandages, to make sure she wouldn’t get infected again. He wasn’t sure if he needed any antibiotics or medicine… He would do anything to save her.

But right now all he could do was stay by her side.


she gritted her teeth as he washed it but soon it was over. ‘Hi….deki….” she attempted to speak. she wanted to tell him she loved him. she could feel her life fading but she fought to keep her eyes open. she fought for him. even though she would come back as a spirit and live with him forever, she knew her death would be hard.. at least until he noticed her spirit. “I lo…ve….  you” she was fading fast and she knew he could tell by the way he was acting.

♪ Do not worry, you’ll be alright… 

"No, no, no, no, T-Takano, please hold on…" 

Not now… It wasn’t her time! She still had a life to live!

Sohta felt tears stream down his cheek, as he tried to keep Takano awake. But she looked so tired… pained… He decided to just let her rest.

♪ I know it’s hard, but say ‘goodnight.’ 

Sohta held her in his arms, unsure of what he needed to do, or even what he was supposed to do now. He wanted to do everything he could, but some part of him felt as if it would be useless to… It felt as if leaving her would be more than cruel.

"I love you Takano. I won’t leave you by yourself. Not again… I promise."

♪ I’ll keep you close and hold you tight… 

He didn’t know how long she would last. She could barely keep her eyes open… It was odd… At this point, all he could think about was what Takano used to enjoy… The poem Takano wrote, how Takano loved the cold summer’s breeze, Takano’s favorite song… 

It was all he could think about.

As if somehow, it all mattered.

♪ I know the sun will rise again, so rest your eyes until then  

He felt her breathing grow rough, he knew she was almost gone.

But all Sohta could do was hold her. He didn’t want to leave her ever again. He didn’t want her to be all alone… 

♪ I promise you, we’ll meet again… ♪ 

He gently kissed her on the forehead.

G-Goodbye… Takano.

♪ You ask me now, and you’ll ask me then… 

He could then tell, that she stopped breathing.

She was gone.

♪ But all I’ll say is that I love you…

Her spirit appeared a few inches from behind where he was of course, he was cryng.. “for the love of god, cheer up Hideki! It’s not like i’n completely gone. sure I can’t leave this damn place but meh…. It’s no biggie”

All he could do was stare.

She… She was alive! Well, not exactly, but she was still here, and it was permanent now. There was the matter of how she could never go anywhere else but that didn’t seem to matter anymore.

She felt okay about it. And that’s all that really seemed important.

God, he felt so relieved…

But god, he felt like such an idiot.

"…I’ll try not to be such a moron next time…" He told her.

"close your mouth you look like a gaping tuna" she joked.

"but moron? no. why would you think that? you’re anything but a moron"

She was ok with not being able to leave, at least for now. Sure, she would eventually get bored and want to leave, but she couldn’t.

"God, When you die it’s ok, except for your judgement. that part is just scary." she couldn’t imagine how bad Hideki’s must have been and judging by his expression, it must have been horrifying.

"s-sorry for bringing that up…." she changed the subject to avoid any conflict.

"I chose to be here, you know. I could have gone to heaven"

"I… I know." He said. "I’m overjoyed that you’re here… but I will tell you, that it will get boring, it will seem like torture, and we might fight… But I just hope I can keep you happy and comfortable until then."

He gave Takano a soft smile, and gently embraced her. 

She felt… just a bit cold, but he didn’t mind. As long as she was safe, and as long as she felt content, he didn’t really mind anything. Takano was basically his one and only treasure, and like a guardian, he just wanted what was best for her.

And if she decided it was staying here with him, then so be it.

Takano knew he was right about the fighting but she also knew that they would resolve it. “Well, if we do fight, at least you can’t tie me to a chair and throw me into a portal” Her mind flashed back to her judgement when they had ruled her fit for heaven, and when she refused to go, demanding to be sent into his prison in the spirit world. They had looked at her like she was crazy. She remembered what they had said about food and drink “So wait. I CAN’T EAT PIZZA ANYMORE!?”

He chuckled at her little joke, and he found her surprise a bit amusing.

"The only things we can eat are the things I had in the fridge when I died." He tried to explain. "It never runs out of food, but it seems a bit pointless to eat when you don’t need to…"

Again the food subject…

He didn’t see what the point was to have food, but he was grateful towards his Mun. She had to do a bit of finagling with the higher-ups to get him his old comforts back. Still… It just didn’t make sense to him…

"Luckily for you, I have a piece of pizza in the fridge. It’s stale though…"

she made a small face

"nah. I’m good, I’d rather have you over pizza any day. But how does she eat then? doesn’t she need cat food?" she asked, pointing to the small kitten curled up on the couch.

The small kitten mewled happily at the sound of food, yawned, and then rolled over on one side. She purred as she curled up into a ball.

"Small rodents usually find their way into here, and they get caught in some of the traps I left. I’ve been feeding her those, but if the need for a substitute should arise, I do have meat, eggs, and milk in the fridge…"

He supposed having food would be great for the cat. At least it was finally going to something very useful. 

He gently pet Ellebanna, her fur feeling very silky and warm. He glanced at Takano, wondering if she was okay with how quiet it was. An inept silence filled the room for a few minutes.

"Hideki, say something.” He hissed to himself. “She’s getting bored!”

He cleared his throat awkwardly, and spoke.

"So… What do you want to do? I have Monopoly if you… uh…"

She couldn’t help but laugh at an old memory that came to her. “I remember when you threw a fit because I beat you 16 straight times in high school.” A small smirk found its way onto Takano’s lips. “So what do you say Hideki? do you really think you can beat me?” She challenged.

He grinned. 

Ah, those memories… He was so annoying back then, but the memories always stayed pure. Monopoly was such a frustrating game, and he would never try to play it with anyone else, but he was willing to try it again with her.

"Nope, I don’t think I have a chance…"

He then slowly walked away from Takano and towards his closet. He took out the old board game, dusted it off, and set it on the coffee table.

"But it’s worth a shot! I accept your challenge."

"Oh it’s on!" she sat down, setting up the game. "well, should I go first, or should you?" he took the first move and soon, he was winning.

"WHAT!? I-I don’t understand! How on earth…"

"Never bet against a teacher when winning Monopoly is on the line!”

Sohta then cackled maniacally in a cheesy sort of way. But he knew she would eventually catch up somewhere in between the game.
